CHARITY DAYS 2021
Each year, Loc (often accompanied by Laura) travels overseas to Vietnam or Nepal to provide free dental care for underprivileged communities. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the restriction of overseas travel, our annual charity trip was cancelled. For this reason, we have decided to give back to local charities in 2021.
We have designated 4 Saturdays in which all fees from patients seen will be donated in full to a nominated charity. Each of our staff members have selected a charity that is important to them.
You can find the dates and nominated charities outlined below:
Saturday 6th February – Karinya House
Karinya House is a local, community based, not-for-profit organisation servicing the ACT and surrounding regions. For 23 years, Karinya House has provided immediate support for women who are pregnant or have new babies and have nowhere else to turn. As a 24 hour, seven day a week service, Karinya House is the only service specifically for pregnant and parenting women in the region, offering individual case management services which may include residential and/or outreach based support services.
Saturday 8th May – Companion House
Companion House is a non-government community-based organisation, working with adults and children who have sought safety in Australia from persecution, torture and war related trauma. They believe that people who have survived torture, trauma and human rights violations should have access to services that respect, empower and promote recovery.
Their services include: medical, counselling, complementary therapy, community development, training and professional development, policy advice and awareness raising and migration advice. All services are provided free of charge.
Saturday 11th September – Sanjiwani Australia
Sanjiwani Australia is a charity which provides all the funds to support the Sanjiwani Clinic, based in Ghandruk, a beautiful village in the mountainous Annapurna region of Nepal. The clinic provides the only local health service for a community of approximately 6000 people in the surrounding valleys.
Funds are raised to run the clinic, to employ qualified health staff, maintaining buildings, and to provide medicines and clinical supplies. The clinic provides health services, training, health education, family planning and pandemic response. The clinic also hosts Australian medical professional volunteers for regular dental and eye clinics. Dr Loc Lam and Dr Laura Pham are regular volunteers at the Ghandruk clinic.
Saturday 27th November – charity to be confirmed.
